Humphrey's by the Bay hosts Christmas Concert Benefit for the San Diego Rescue Mission
November 8, 2002 San Diego, CA: Humphrey's by the Bay will host a Christmas Concert Benefit for the San Diego Rescue Mission on Thursday, December 5th at 8:00pm.
The San Diego Rescue Mission began in 1955 as a soup kitchen on G Street and is now one of the largest Missions in Southern California, providing food, shelter and education to thousands of people each year.
The Rescue Mission is in the process of moving to a new facility, which will house 400 people, helping to fill in the gap left by the closing of the City of San Diego's winter shelters.
The Mission provides a battered women's shelter, and also coordinates Food Recovery Inc., a nonprofit organization that is swamped daily with desperate calls from food agencies needing help. The sliding economy has forced thousands of San Diego Hotel workers out of their jobs, overwhelming local shelters who feed the hungry. It's a big job, especially considering that there are no paid staff members with Food Recovery, Inc., only volunteers. Visit their Web site.
Performing at the concert are
Ames, Sven Eric-Seaholm,
Chuck Schiele & the Mysterious Ways,
All proceeds donated to the beneficiary. Larger donations will be gratefully accepted by a representative of the San Diego Rescue Mission, who will be making a brief presentation about what the Rescue Mission is currently doing.
The event will be emceed by Michael Breen of San Diego Area Music, a subsidiary of Outside the Box.
