The Main Attraction

Welcome to

The Main Attraction is a choreographed vocal ensemble consisting of 34 of the best singers and dancers from Chula Vista High’s School for the Creative and Performing Arts, California.

The 1996-1997 Main Attraction.

The award-winning Main Attraction has made their presence well known throughout California by receiving triple superiors at every show-choir festival competition they competed in during the 1996 and 1997 season. They placed first at the CMEA “1996 Tops-N-Pops” Show-Choir Festival, and took back-to-back FIRST PLACES (out of 75 show-choirs in the state) at the “Fullerton College 1996 and 1997 Jazz Festivals”.They received a perfect 300/300 score from the judges at the 1997 Fullerton festival!!

The Main Attraction was selected to perform at 1994 “Insights” Convention held in San Diego which featured special speaking dignitaries: former President George Bush, talk show host Larry King, the Reverend Jesse Jackson, comedian Dana Carvey, and Rock-n-Roll legend Jerry Lee Lewis, just to name a few.

Only in their fifth year under the direction of Mr. Tony Atienza, and choreographed by Ms. Bobbi Adams, they have performed at the “1995 Young People’s Concert” with the San Diego Symphony (now extinct). They were featured on San Diego’s KUSI “Christmas for the Holidays” in December of that same year. In 1996, CVHS received the California Distinguished School Award, and The Main Attraction was selected to represent the Sweetwater Union High School District at this state-wide event where they performed before the state superintendent and every superintendent in the state along with many VIP guests.

All the young men and women in The Main Attraction attend Chula Vista High School, and have auditioned to become part of this highly-select performing ensemble. Every year the group goes on a national or international tour representing Chula Vista High School and our community’s finest youth. In three years, tours have included traveling to : San Francisco, Hawaii, Toronto, Canada, Niagara Falls and all over Southern California. Their plans for 1998 includes a trip to New York for a national tour and to participate at the Heritage Music Festival Competition in April.

Every year since 1995, The Main Attraction has hosted a National Competition called The Southern California Performance Show-Choir Invitational held in late April. This fabulous event has become one of the finest show-choir competitions in California. Every year, we attract the “Top Guns” of show-choirs from California and the western United States to come to San Diego and “strut their stuff”. It showcases our most talented youth at their best, singing and dancing their way into everybody’s hearts.

*If you are planning on coming out to California in April and are interested in participating in this spectacular event, or would just like to observe, please contact us immediately, for spots for this festival event fill up pretty quick by local choirs. We encourage choral groups out-of-state to come to “America’s Finest City” and see what San Diego is all about!
