Valeri Lopez should really be better known. She is an amazing musician,
and I was lucky enough to hear her at the Hot Java Cafe opening for
Lopez has ten times more emotion in her voice than most other musicians. Soyu Sae joined her on stage with backing vocals and guitar, blending together to make the show even more amazing.
Lopez sang a slower cover of Johnny Cash's "Sea of Heartbreak" near the end of the set. She threw so much into that song that by the end of it, I wouldn't have been surprised if she were crying. Another favorite of mine was her song "PBJ."
She is a dynamic musician, singing in both whispers and wails. Her honesty as a musician will take her far and if I could, I'd relive the whole set over again.
