If you missed the music of Seattle in the early 1990's (as I did, essentially, because I was 12 and in Minnesota), you can still catch it live in a band called Latigo. I know that this might sound like a dig, but it really isn't. Latigo's old-school "alternative rock" (can I say that yet?) sound sets them apart from the Blinks, Sums, Good Charoletts, Arvils, and so on.

Latigo played w/out gimmics, pretension, or "a look". It was just three guys, two guitars, a set of drums and lots of distortion.

As with most of the shows I've gone to, there was a very small audience; it seems I'm the kiss of death to attendance. However, Latigo played through an energetic 45 minute set despite the small crowd.

Dream Street was set up a little like a seedy strip-club (according to my friend Ryan) including glitter-vinyl chairs and DJ booth, and small diamond-shaped windows framed by strip lighting. The drinks were stiff and cheap, and the staff was friendly. It was a great dive-bar venue.

At the end of the night, Ryan and I agreed that we'd had a good time. If you are in the mood to see a "garage/grunge" band, Latigo is for you.
