ANY Broadsyde show is a great show, period. However, when Broadsyde took the stage at the Longshot Saloon in San Marcos the last balmy Friday night in April, a great show became a "stay-for-an-hour-after-because-I-had-to-mop-what-was-left-of-my-face-off-the-floor" show! Broadsyde had the whole place rockin' like they were playing the Coliseum.

With a new drummer and bass man, Broadsyde is a huge, intricate, razor-sharp and finely tuned Rock 'n' Roll machine. Chris Nyne is one of the most amazing drummers I've ever seen, syncopating with precision while doing all the great tricks: stick twirling and bouncing them off a rim to catch it and come crashing down on a cymbal. As I looked around the room during his solo, all I saw was dropped jaws and bugged eyes. Eric Goldy, better know as just "Goldy" and Broadsyde's new bass blood, is a massive force of energy and heart onstage. His playing lends a bit of funk and a lot of punch to Broadsyde's signature brand of X-ROCK. The everlasting and incredibly talented Smokie Miller, a charter member of the band, ripped it up on guitar and vox. He doesn't just play his guitar he BECOMES his guitar. And of course, there's Snake Feider, lead singer and lead guitar. Cut him and he bleeds rock 'n' roll. His riffs and his and raw, slippery, resonant voice busting out impromptu lyrics are hypnotic and pack a punch like a triple shot of Jagermeister.

Even more than that, more than their awesome Junkyard-from-Hell presence, more than their catchy and memorable songs like "My Life Story," "Stay Awhile," and "To Whom It May Concern" is the solidarity, the cohesiveness that's happening amidst them. You can FEEL their collective rock 'n' roll energy shoot off the stage like a freight train, you can see it drift through photos. These guys are in it for the love of music, for the love of life, for the love of all things rock 'n' roll. I'd watch out if I were you, because San Diego and the WORLD are about to be BROADSYDED.

Be sure to be there to witness BROADSYDE LIVE along with WITHER at Brick by Brick May 28th 2004. For more info on BROADSYDE, visit their Web site.
