At first glance of Kurt Adam's cover for "the demos, act one," you feel like you're in a park being serenaded. Really- he's lying upon some of the greenest grass I have ever seen! Aside from the initial visual appeal...

Kurt Adam knows music, and it's evident by the milky harmonies in his resonating acoustic music. From the first song, "With No Regrets," the vocals pull you in more than anything- at least for me. I thrive on harmony.

Track two, "Wake Me Up," has a slightly funkier mood than the previous song. Adam stretches to his upper vocal range. The lyrics are profound- "I never felt like I was old, until the day that I met you. I never knew it could get so cold, until the day that I met you, but if you don't mind, could I be so bold? And tell you that I always knew." It seems like a basic concept really, but sometimes someone says it just right, and Adam has done that.

Track eight, "Good Sorrow" features that wonderful harmonizing with delicate single piano notes being hit behind the standard guitar. It's mellow, but in no way dragging.

Although it's only Adam playing on the entire CD (during an unemployed summer nonetheless- how indie!), it feels like much more. Although he still falls in the singer-songwriter category in my mind, I hope he uses "the demos, act two" to expand further as a musician. We'll have to wait and see!

Note: Kurt Adam resides in the Hollywood area. It is not very far from San Diego. If you're ever out there, definitely check to see if Adam is playing live. It will be a great show, I'm sure!
